Michael is came home on Tues May 12th!! Thank God!! The doctors are finalizing their at-home strategy for antibiotics, follow-up visits, medications, and general "stuff" to watch for! Michael, obviously, is in GREAT spirits as he's been VERY anxious to get home!! The doctors are pleased with his progress as he is taking less and less of his pain medication. The rash that he got all over his chest is much, much better now, and the doctors think the rash should be gone completely in a few more days. An echo cardiogram expert told us that he looked at Michael's echo, and he feels that Michael's heart is working at just about normal level. So these are all good signs that Michael is doing well!! He has no excess fluid around the lungs or his heart so that is another very good sign.

The doctors continue to be puzzled by Michael's inflamed valve that was replaced. With no signs of any kind of infection, the doctors are saying that the valve should NOT have been as inflamed as it was. Michael's events over the last year and a half could be a great story for a "House" episode. Our doctors are recommending follow-up visits with specific expert doctors (Kidney specialist, Lung specialist, Rhuematologist, Hemotologist, etc) just as a plan of action to see if any of these doctors can possibly add any kind of insight into Michael's history. They are like detectives trying to solve an extremely difficult case. Their most puzzling question is, "how can a young man in such amazing shape get Lemierre's Disease and Endocharditis requiring 2 open-heart surgeries and 4 hospital stays?" There is no concrete answer so they will continue to monitor Michael's health over the years and try to keep him as healthy as possible!!
