Surgery Info (from Stewart)

Michael has to have another surgery to either repair OR replace his valve. The new infection has caused his valve to leak some more, so the doctors have confirmed that another surgery is necessary. The scheduled surgery will be Tuesday, January 20th. Michael is in GREAT spirits (he’s taking this very well!!!), and he has no pain and no discomfort. Obviously, he wishes that another surgery was not necessary, but despite all he’s been through, he remains positive about his outcome. The surgeon, Dr. Hanley, will decide if his valve is repairable once they go in again. Our cardiologist has explained to us that a valve that has been infected twice has a very low chance of being repaired. IF Michael’s valve does need to be replaced, he prefers a pig’s valve, which would give him anywhere from 5 to 15 years of a “normal” life including any kind of sports, weightlifting, etc. Michael knows that he would have to have another surgery “down the road,” but medical advances in the next 5 to 15 years may give him some different options when it comes time for another surgery. Please continue to pray for Michael, and we thank you all so much for keeping Michael in your thoughts.
