Michael came home last night from the hospital! Yeah!! It's great and a little scary all at the same time.
His heart rate and blood pressure, etc. is not normal like it use to be before he had the first mitral valve infection but for now it's a new normal for him and he needs to monitor it on a daily basis.
He has a pic line in his arm for his IV antibiotics which come in syringes and he can administer it to himself once a day. It's a lot easier than the last time he came home after having Lemierre's Syndrome and he had to have 2 different antibiotics (one 3x day and one 2x day) going through those big IV stands where it hangs on the pole and you have to program the information into it, and he had to walk around connected to it.
He also has to take 'Lasix" (a diretic) to make sure that fluid doesn't form around his lungs again and another pill to lower his blood pressure even more which is suppose to make the blood flow slower and it helps the valve to heal. He does this for 4 weeks and will have weekly appointments to his cardiologist and infectious disease doctor's. Also a home nurse comes once a week to do checks and draw blood, etc.
After the 4 weeks of antibiotics the cardiologist and surgeons will take a look at his valve and decide if he will need another heart surgery to repair or replace his mitral valve or not. Michael will need to drop out of Sacramento State for this semester of classes and he's not sure what he will do about the 2nd semester yet. It will probably depend on whether he'll need surgery or not.
Michael's in good spirits considering everything that's going on.
Thank you to everyone who is thinking and praying for Michael and our family. It means the world to us.
Love Sher, Stew, Michael & Sarah
